If you have time and energy upon arrival, we highly recommend exploring the vibrant city of Amman. As the cultural and political heart of Jordan, Amman is a captivating blend of old and new. Begin your exploration at the historic Citadel, perched on one of the city’s seven hills, where you can take in sweeping views of the capital and explore fascinating ruins from the Roman, Byzantine, and early Islamic periods.
From the Citadel, it’s a short walk downhill to the impressive Greek- Roman Theatre, a grand structure dating back to the 2nd century AD that remains a cultural hub to this day.
Wander through the bustling downtown souks, where you’ll find spices, sweets, antiques, and handicrafts. Stop at a traditional café to sip strong Arabic coffee, indulge in fresh kunafa or baklava, and observe the lively street scenes perhaps joining locals for a game of backgammon or trying a puff of argeelah (water pipe).
This evening is yours to relax or explore at your own pace. Get a good night's rest as you prepare for the exciting days ahead.
Day 2: Explore Ancient Jerash & Lunch with a Local Family in Ajloun
After breakfast, you will depart Amman and head north to Gerasa, one of the most remarkable and best-preserved Roman cities outside of Italy often referred to as the "Pompeii of the East."
Founded during the era of Alexander the Great, Jerash reached its peak during the Roman period as a thriving city along key trade routes linking Damascus to Petra. As you step through Hadrian’s Arch, built in 129 AD to honor the Emperor’s visit, you'll be transported back in time.
Wander through the ancient city’s impressive colonnaded streets, explore the majestic Oval Plaza, and marvel at the Temple of Artemis, dedicated to the city’s patron goddess. You’ll also visit the grand South Theatre, still used today for concerts and festivals, and see the remains of bathhouses, fountains, and the hippodrome, which once hosted chariot races. Don’t miss the stunning Byzantine mosaics vivid testaments to the early Christian era.
Following your visit, continue on a scenic drive to the green hills of Ajloun, where you will be welcomed into a local home in the village of Orjan. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional Jordanian lunch, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients an opportunity to connect with Jordanian hospitality, family traditions, and rural life.
After this rich cultural and culinary experience, return to Amman in the late afternoon for overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Dana Biosphere Reserve & Hike the Shaq al Reish Trail
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and begin your journey south toward the breathtaking Riserva della biosfera di Dana, Jordan’s largest nature reserve and one of its most ecologically diverse areas. The drive to Dana offers scenic views of the Jordanian highlands and rural countryside.
Upon arrival, you’ll begin your hike on the Shaq al Reish Trail, a hidden gem located near the town of Busayra in the Tafilah region. This 3.5-kilometer loop trail offers a moderately challenging trek through dramatic sandstone canyons, narrow gorges, and unique geological formations. The name Shaq al Reish translates to "Feather Crack," a poetic reference to the delicate lines and shapes carved into the rocks over centuries by wind and water.
The trail typically takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete at a relaxed pace. While it is relatively short, it includes some uneven terrain, light scrambling, and narrow passages that add a sense of adventure. It is ideal for hikers who want to experience the stunning natural beauty of Dana without embarking on a long trek.
Along the way, enjoy the peace and quiet of the reserve you’re unlikely to encounter many other hikers, making it a perfect escape into nature. The trail is especially beautiful in the autumn months (September to October), when temperatures are milder and the colors of the landscape are at their most vibrant.
After your hike, relax and enjoy the tranquility of Dana. Overnight stay in or near the reserve.
Day 4: Petra (Backdoor)
This morning, we will be transferred to Little Petra , From here, we continue on foot with our main guide as we make our final approach to the legendary city of Petra tramite il Sentiero del ritorno una conclusione davvero indimenticabile del nostro cammino.
Day 5: Free Day to Explore Petra at Your Own Pace – Then Journey to Wadi Rum
No matter how many photos or films you’ve seen, nothing truly prepares you for the breathtaking moment when you first set eyes on Petra. Your journey into this ancient city begins with a walk through the Siq, a narrow, winding gorge carved into rose-red sandstone. As you reach the end, you're rewarded with the awe-inspiring view of the Treasury – a towering façade carved directly into the cliff face over 2,000 years ago. It's one of the most iconic sights in the world, and just the beginning of what Petra has to offer.
Today is a free day for you to explore Petra at your own pace. This UNESCO World Heritage Site stretches across a vast area filled with archaeological wonders. From the Royal Tombs and the Roman Theatre to the Byzantine Church and the Temple of the Winged Lions, every corner reveals a new piece of the Nabataean legacy. For those seeking a challenge, a hike up to the Monastery or the High Place of Sacrifice offers not only historical insight but also spectacular panoramic views.
Petra is much more than just a city carved in stone it's a living testament to the Nabataeans’ advanced engineering, architectural brilliance, and cultural fusion. As you wander through its ancient streets, rock-cut tombs, and hidden paths, you’ll feel the magic of this desert jewel, where history, mystery, and natural beauty meet. Take your time to soak it all in whether by exploring the main trail or venturing into lesser-known corners.
Later in the afternoon, after you've had ample time to enjoy Petra, we will regroup and drive south to the majestic desert of Wadi Rum also known as the Valley of the Moon. This protected desert wilderness is famous for its dramatic sandstone mountains, ancient petroglyphs, and vast red sand dunes.
Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed into a traditional Bedouin camp, where you can enjoy a warm dinner under the stars. The evening is yours to relax, sit by the campfire, and take in the silence and beauty of the desert landscape. Your overnight stay in Wadi Rum offers a unique opportunity to experience authentic Bedouin hospitality and sleep surrounded by one of the most surreal and unforgettable environments in Jordan.
Day 6: Hiking Jabal Al-Hash – A Scenic Desert Adventure
We begin our day with a short 30-minute drive south into the heart of Wadi Rum, heading toward the lesser-visited but stunning Jabal Al-Hash (also known as Jebel Khasch). This remote area near the Saudi border offers one of the most rewarding hikes in southern Jordan, far from the crowds and surrounded by raw desert beauty.
Our hike begins in a rocky valley, where sparse desert vegetation grows between dramatic sandstone formations. As we ascend, the trail gradually leads us over broad rock slabs and winding passages carved by time and wind. The terrain is varied but manageable, offering a sense of exploration as we navigate toward the high plateau.
We’ll aim for a prominent summit on the massif, reaching an altitude of approximately 1,700 meters (5,575 feet). From the top, we are treated to panoramic views stretching across the golden desert a breathtaking vantage point to take in the vastness of Wadi Rum and the distant mountain ridges of Saudi Arabia.
Our descent takes us westward through a different valley, effectively making this a full traverse of Jabal Al-Hash. Along the way, you’ll notice striking variations in the rock colors deep reds, purples, and hints of blue all illuminated by the desert sun. After around four hours of hiking, we reach a wide sandy wadi where our vehicles will be waiting with a freshly prepared lunch.
In the afternoon, we continue by foot into another scenic wadi, a beautiful descent surrounded by towering cliffs. This area is known for its wildlife, and if we’re lucky, we might spot Sinai rosefinches, Jordan’s national bird, flitting among the rocks. The trail passes an ancient Bedouin cemetery, offering a quiet reminder of the deep human history etched into this landscape.
Day 7: Dead Sea
After breakfast, your Bedouin hosts will drive you back to Rum Village, where you'll begin your journey northward to the legendary Dead Sea. Upon arrival, you'll check into a well-appointed resort and spa hotel, offering the perfect balance of relaxation and rejuvenation. The Dead Sea, located at over 350 meters below sea level, is the lowest point on Earth’s surface. Floating effortlessly in its warm, hypersaline waters is a truly unique and therapeutic experience one that has drawn visitors for millennia. The sea’s mineral-rich mud is famous worldwide for its healing and skin-nourishing properties. While it’s sold at premium prices in European spas, here in Jordan, you can scoop it up directly from the shoreline and indulge in a natural full-body treatment.
Beyond its wellness benefits, the Dead Sea is a place of remarkable natural beauty. Its deep blue waters contrast vividly with the crystalline white salt formations along the shore; all set against the dramatic backdrop of red desert cliffs and distant mountains. Whether you’re soaking in the water, enjoying a spa treatment, or watching the sun set over this surreal landscape, your time at the Dead Sea will be both relaxing and unforgettable.
